Tornado risk doesn't dampen spirits

This little cutie took home a first place ribbon with her incredible Wicked Witch pumpkin, which she entered in the Fairfield Lake State Park's first annual Pumpkin Decorating Contest.

Warnings of tornadoes, hail, and strong winds are not enough to stop Halloween! Masked children took advantage of a break in a line of storms that moved through Freestone County late Halloween afternoon. Because of the weather the annual Boo on the Square event was moved into the Green Barn at the fairgrounds, but Fairfield churches still hosted their trunk or treat events.

“There’s no way I could count how many kids attended,” said Chamber Executive Director Brenda Pate. “One man said he thought all of Freestone County was there!”


Pumpkin winners announced

Thirteen pre-k students were awarded for their creativity during the Pre-K's Pumpkin Decorating Contest held last week. Amy Evans, Melissa Cox, and Lisa Schick judged the pumpkins, choosing first, second, and third places, as well as various other categories.
