Lady Eagles beat Mexia for 7th district win

The Fairfield girls’ basketball team won its seventh consecutive District 19-4A game Friday night with a 53-47 triumph at Mexia.

The victory improved the Lady Eagles’ record to 7-0 in district. They had already clinched the district championship and went for a sweep of district play Tuesday when they hosted Madisonville.

The Lady Eagles used a 12-0 run in the first quarter to take a 16-6 advantage at the first break.

However, Mexia battled back throughout the game and took the lead early in the fourth quarter.

The Fairfield girls’ basketball team won two games last week to raise their District 19-4A record to 6-0. The Lady Eagles are 22-8 overall.

Fairfield edged Rusk, 40-36, on Tuesday and then defeated Palestine, 53-24, on Friday.

Fairfield ran off the first 21 points of the game against Palestine and never looked back. Jada Clark scored seven points in the opening stanza and Belle Johnson had six on a pair of three-pointers.

Fairfield led 21-2 at the first break and increased the margin to 34-9 at halftime. They were ahead 44-18 after three quarters.
