The first winners of an RCA Victor Portable Color TV set is the E.M. Bowers Family. L to R are wife, Janie; daughter, Caroline, and E.M. Bowers. The prize had a special significance because - as Janie said - "it came to us just before Christmas, and just before my birthday, and just before our 61st wedding anniversary." Old Citizen Of Streetman Passes – U.F. Roberts, aged 78, long time resident of the northern part of the county, died Saturday. Burial was in the Birdston Cemetery Sunday, the Rev. W.H. Day officiating. Deceased is survived by his widow, eight sons and two daughters: Ben Roberts, Evansville, Ind.; Bark Roberts, McQueen, Okla.; Jack Roberts, Clovis, N.M.; Joe Roberts, Roswell, N.M.; Aubrey Roberts, Dallas; Sam Roberts, Dallas; Lish Roberts, Corsicana; Mrs. Eleanor Sibles and Mrs. Alice Sims, Dallas.

Kirven Woman Narrowly Escapes Death – Mrs. J.L. Green recently suffered severe burns when her clothing became ignited from a heater. She had been ill from influenza, but was able to get up and was standing in front of the heater when a draft drew her dress into the stove. Mr. Green, druggist, had great difficulty in extinguishing the flames which were leaping around her head. Her daughter, Mrs. John T. King, of Teague, is at her bedside.

Body of Murdered Negro Found in Creek Under Ice – The body of Monroe Higgins, negro, aged about 35, was found Thursday afternoon under Cottonwood Creek bridge, on the old highway between Fairfield and Stewards Mill. The body was discovered by Fred Foulk, who was investigating an object he saw in the water under the ice. Examination showed Higgins’ death was caused by a shotgun wound to the side of his face. Extensive investigation is being made by the Sheriff’s department, County Attorney, and the Grand Jury. A white man is being held in the jail pending the investigation. Officers expressed the opinion that Higgins was killed Tuesday night before
